About this photo...
The Statue stands 93 m tall (comprising her pedestal) facing the port’s entrance. She represents a woman draped in a Greek-styled robe, wearing a crown on her head. With her right hand lifted up high she holds a flaming torch, and with her left hand, the stone tablet bearing the United States Declaration of Independence. At her feet, though invisible from below, the broken shackles symbolizing the end of slavery. Her location at the entrance of the New Yorker port has entitled her the symbol of the New World, not only for the prosperous tourists who came on a voyage to America, but also, and mostly, for thousands of immigrants who arrived on the Promised Land. This photo has been viewed 1616 times
